Sitter Job Description - A Sitter's primary responsibility
is to care for the child, including entertaining the child, making sure the child
is fed according to parents' instructions, and generally providing for the well-being
of the child/children. Unlike a nanny, a Sitter's responsibilities typically do
not extend to other household and extensive child-related responsibilities (e.g.,
there is usually no light housekeeping, meal preparation, transporting children,
running errands, etc. involved). Such additional responsibilities may certainly
be negotiated with a Sitter, but are not typically part of their job description.
Typical Salary - Pay for Sitters may vary anywhere
from minimum wage to $10/hour or more and depend on the Sitter's experience, number
of children to be cared for, region of the country, etc. Families are encouraged
to SEARCH our database for FREE
to see the salaries requested by candidates registered on our site.
Schedules - All domestic personnel position types
registered at GoNannies.com must indicate their availability. They may be available
part-time or full-time or both, and may also indicate whether they are available
during the week, evenings, on occasion/as needed, etc. Look for how a candidate
has answered the "When Available" question to best determine their availability.
Regularly Scheduled Sitters - If you are looking
for a sitter who will have a regular schedule (e.g., full-time weekdays, 2 times
per week, etc.), you should search our site to find candidates who best fit your
schedule needs and contact them to confirm their exact desired schedule. When searching,
the field you want to look at to determine "when" they are available is the "When
Available" field.
Occasional/As Needed Sitters - If you are in need
of occasional sitting for your child/children or for your group or organization,
then your best value for our service is to subscribe for membership, and during
that period, accumulate contact information for all candidates you would like to
contact. When reviewing the candidates' profiles, the field you want to look at
to determine when they are available is the "When Available " field, and the candidates
who have indicated that they are available on an "Occasional/As Needed" basis will
be the ones who will likely best fit your requirements. When you find candidates
of interest, perform interviews and reference checking and develop a pool of reliable,
competent candidates whom you may call on well into the future (even after your
subscription period has expired). We also recommend running background checks on
your final candidate choices (Click here
for info on Background Checks with a low GoNannies.com discount rate).
That way you end up with sitters that you can call on as you need them, far into
the future.
Benefits - Offering benefits to an employee is not
required by law. Benefits may optionally be offered to all domestic personnel types
and when offered, makes the package being offered to a candidate more attractive
and may contribute to the longevity of their employment. Many candidates do not
expect or desire benefits while others do. This should be discussed directly between
families and candidates.
